Short answer: For smart-home and appliance brands, the calendar runs from CES in Las Vegas (6–9 January 2027) and KBIS (2–4 February, as reported), through AWE in Shanghai (17–20 March), to IFA in Berlin (3–7 September) and CEATEC near Tokyo (19–22 October). IFA and AWE are built around home appliances, KBIS suits kitchen and bath products sold through designers and builders, and CEATEC is a cross-industry technology show near Tokyo. For Japanese coverage, what matters most is having Japanese materials ready and editors invited before the show opens.
The calendar at a glance
Each organizer runs its show differently: some are trade-only, some open to the public every day, and few publish stand prices. The table collects the facts in one place. Figures are organizer-reported unless marked as audited, and they come from the latest completed edition, so they aren't comparable across shows.

The shows, one by one
CES: the January launch window
CES 2027 runs from 6 to 9 January in Las Vegas, with the CES Unveiled media event on 4 January. It's trade-only, 18+, and attendees must show industry affiliation (CES registration information). For CES 2026, CTA reported an independently audited 148,392 participants, 55,841 of them international (37.6%), plus 4,100+ exhibitors and around 1,200 startups in Eureka Park (CTA release via AAP, March 2026).
Suits: connected devices that want a global launch moment and coverage from international and Japanese tech media. Watch out: smart-home products compete with every other category for attention, and CES 2027 stand rates aren't public. Application routes, Eureka Park rules and costs are in our CES 2027 exhibitor guide.
KBIS: kitchen and bath, sold through the trade
The Kitchen & Bath Industry Show, run by the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA), takes place from 2 to 4 February 2027 (as reported) at the Las Vegas Convention Center. It's co-located with the NAHB International Builders' Show as Design & Construction Week, and a KBIS badge includes the builders' show floor. Trade press reports more than 600 exhibiting brands, with registration open since 1 September 2026, and lists designers, architects, builders, remodelers, dealers, showrooms and fabricators among attendees (Surface & Panel, September 2026). We found no verified visitor figure and no public stand price; the organizer quotes on request.
Suits: smart faucets, connected kitchen appliances, ventilation and bath products that are specified during a build or remodel. Watch out: this is a North American trade-channel show. Plug-in gadgets sold at retail will find few of their buyers here, and you shouldn't build a Japanese media story around it.
AWE: Shanghai's appliance and electronics show
AWE (Appliance & Electronics World Expo) 2027 runs from 17 to 20 March at the Shanghai New International Expo Center under the theme "AI+ · Beyond Boundaries". The launch release plans 150,000 sqm, 1,200+ exhibitors and around 280,000 visitors, all projections. For AWE2026, the same release reports 1,000+ exhibitors, 250,000 visitors (up 30%) and international attendance up 50% (AWE release via Kyodo News PR Wire, August 2026).
The release doesn't say how trade and consumer visitors are split, and we couldn't verify an English organizer page with exhibitor terms. There's no public stand price; the organizer quotes on request. Suits: brands that work with Chinese manufacturers or want to benchmark competing appliances. Watch out: ask the organizer about the audience before planning a consumer launch there.
IFA Berlin: appliances and consumer electronics in Europe
IFA 2027 runs from 3 to 7 September at Messe Berlin, with Media Days on 1 and 2 September. Trade visitors enter from 9:30 and the public from 12:00 on Friday and 10:00 on the other days, so there's no trade-only day (IFA Berlin). The completed 2026 edition (4–8 September 2026) reported 240,000 visitors from 155 countries, more than 2,000 exhibitors and more than 5,200 press, bloggers and creators; the startup area IFA Next had around 300 exhibitors from 24 countries (IFA press release, September 2026). These figures aren't stated as audited.
Suits: appliance and smart-home brands targeting European retail and media, with Home Appliances as a named show area. Watch out: IFA publishes no list price, only booking discounts; see our IFA 2027 exhibitor guide.
CEATEC: cross-industry technology near Tokyo
CEATEC 2027 runs from 19 to 22 October at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, with free admission for pre-registered visitors (CEATEC). In its completed 2026 edition (13–16 October 2026), 821 companies and organizations exhibited (CEATEC). The 112,373 registered visitors reported for the four days are a joint count with Japan Mobility Show Bizweek, held at the same venue, rather than a CEATEC-only figure (Internet Watch, October 2026, in Japanese). The official 2025 results list 810 exhibitors, a total attendance of 98,884 and 635 registered press (CEATEC 2025 results). The two visitor figures measure different things, so don't read them as growth.
CEATEC is a cross-industry digital technology show, not an appliance show. Startups exhibit in the Next Generation Park. For 2026, a 3 m × 3 m general booth cost ¥440,000 including tax (¥396,000 for members), a Next Generation Park booth ¥143,000 including tax, and power ¥13,200 per kW (CEATEC 2026 exhibition regulations, in Japanese). 2027 fees and deadlines aren't published yet; in 2026, applications opened on 12 February.
Suits: connected-home products with a technology story and a Japanese launch plan. Watch out: admission is free with pre-registration and no trade/public split is published, so ask the organizer who attends before planning a consumer launch.
JAPAN BUILD TOKYO and its Smart Home Expo zone
Organized by RX Japan, JAPAN BUILD TOKYO runs from 2 to 4 December 2026 at Tokyo Big Sight and includes a component show called Smart Home Expo, covering IoT home equipment, smart locks, security, home energy management (HEMS) and zero-energy homes. The organizer calls it "a trade show for business": registration is free until 25 November, then ¥5,500 including tax, and visitors must be 18 or over. The 2025 Tokyo edition had 33,618 visitors and 548 exhibitors, including concurrent shows. An Osaka edition is set for 25–27 August 2027 at INTEX Osaka; Tokyo 2027 dates aren't published yet (JAPAN BUILD TOKYO). We found no public stand price; the organizer quotes on request.
Suits: devices sold to housebuilders, developers and installers. December's edition is also a cheap way to see the Japanese market before committing to a 2027 booth.
The Japan Home & Building Show, at Tokyo Big Sight's West Halls from 18 to 20 November 2026, is often confused with these. It's a trade show for building materials, household equipment and systems, energy and remodeling, not a smart-home show (JETRO J-messe listing).
What exhibiting costs
Only CEATEC publishes a current price; CES's last public card is from 2025. Space is only part of the bill.

- Choose shows by buyer and market
- Prebook CES or IFA space
- Check CEATEC's spring application window
- 22
4–8 months out
- PSE and giteki status for Japan
- Japanese app, manual and specifications

- Follow up within days
- Use the show as a news peg
Certification is the item that most often runs late. If your product uses Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, it may need Japanese radio certification (技適, giteki) before you can sell it in Japan, and many electrical products need the PSE mark. See the Japan product compliance and license checklist; it isn't legal advice.
How to Reach Japanese Media Around These Shows
Know who covers your product. Japan has no sizable smart-home-only outlet. Kitchen, cleaning and climate products go to Impress's Kaden Watch (家電 Watch); audio and video to AV Watch; connected gadgets to ITmedia NEWS くらテク and GetNavi web; retail stories to BCN+R. The test titles 家電批評 and 360LiFE buy most products themselves. Outlet details are in our guide to Japanese media for smart-home and appliance products and the Japanese tech media publishers guide.
Match the plan to the show.
- CES and IFA: a booth in Las Vegas or Berlin won't reach editors in Tokyo by itself, so send a Japanese release timed for Japanese mornings; for CES, see taking a CES launch to Japan.
- AWE and KBIS: treat these as sales and benchmarking shows. If you announce something there, prepare a separate Japanese release rather than relying on show coverage.
- CEATEC and JAPAN BUILD: Japanese editors are on the floor. In 2026, CEATEC issued press badges on the day to journalists with two business cards and kept exhibitors' releases in a press center (CEATEC press information). Invite editors to fixed demo slots a few weeks ahead.
Have the answers editors will ask for. Japanese specifications in metric units, plug and voltage, PSE and giteki status, whether the app works in Japanese and with which voice assistants, the yen price, and where to buy. A device that isn't on sale in Japan yet is much harder to cover.
Plan review units and follow-up. Appliance reviews are hands-on and slow, so units should be in Japan, with Japanese labeling, ready for the week after the show. Use the show as a news peg when approaching outlets that didn't attend. See trade show PR in Japan: before, during and after and turning a trade-show launch into Japanese media coverage.
Where Gloture fits
We help overseas smart-home and appliance brands turn a show announcement, at CES, IFA, CEATEC or elsewhere, into a Japanese media plan: Japanese releases timed for Japanese editors, invitations to the outlets that cover your category, and review units and follow-up afterward. We don't book stands, build booths or handle certification. Product PR in Japan starts from US$2,500. We don't guarantee coverage; editors decide. To check whether your product and timing fit, start a Japan PR Review.

Frequently asked questions
Which trade show is best for a smart-home brand?
It depends on where you sell and to whom. IFA and CES reach international retail and media, KBIS reaches North American kitchen and bath trade buyers, AWE shows the Chinese appliance industry, and CEATEC and JAPAN BUILD put you in front of Japanese business visitors and editors.
Is "Smart Home Expo" a show in Tokyo or in Mumbai?
Both use the name. In Tokyo, Smart Home Expo is a zone inside RX Japan's JAPAN BUILD TOKYO, a trade-only show. Messe Frankfurt India runs a separate Smart Home Expo in Mumbai. Check the organizer and venue before you register.
Do we need a booth at CEATEC to get Japanese coverage?
No. Editors decide what they write, and many products get covered through a Japanese release, a briefing or a review unit, with or without a booth. A booth at CEATEC helps when you have something to demonstrate and someone who can explain it in Japanese.
