Short answer: Japanese tech media cover CES in depth, but a CES announcement doesn't automatically become Japanese coverage. To turn it into Japanese PR, prepare a Japanese release before the show, send it to Japanese editors under the same embargo, schedule wider Japanese distribution for a Japanese morning (Japan is 17 hours ahead of Las Vegas in January), and make clear when and how the product will reach Japan. Then follow up after CES, when Japanese outlets publish recaps and trend pieces. CES 2027 runs from 6 to 9 January 2027 (CES).
How Japanese media cover CES
CES is a major event for Japanese technology media. In 2026, Impress's AV Watch, Kaden Watch and Internet Watch, GIZMODO JAPAN and ITmedia all ran dedicated CES sections (AV Watch, Kaden Watch, GIZMODO JAPAN, in Japanese). Coverage didn't stop when the show closed on 9 January. AV Watch was still publishing CES-related analysis in late January, and EE Times Japan ran a CES recap feature at the end of March (EE Times Japan, March 2026, in Japanese).
Japanese editors are watching CES, but they are also watching more than 4,100 exhibitors. CES 2026 had 148,392 audited attendees, around 1,200 startups in Eureka Park and 7,037 media, content creators and analysts (CTA audit results, March 2026). A product announced only in English, with no Japanese price or availability, is easy to skip.

Before CES: prepare a Japanese version of the launch
- A Japanese release, not a translation: what is new for Japanese readers, the expected Japanese price and timing if you can give them, and a Japanese contact.
- Images and a short video usable by Japanese outlets, with Japanese captions if possible.
- A Japanese landing page or a section of your site that Japanese articles can link to.
- Embargo terms that work in Japanese time. A release under embargo until a Las Vegas press conference lifts in the middle of the Japanese night.
- A short list of Japanese outlets that cover your category, briefed before the show. See the guide to Japanese gadget websites.
Japanese organizations also run activities around CES. JETRO organizes a Japan Pavilion in Eureka Park, which had 31 companies in 2026 (Forbes JAPAN, January 2026, in Japanese). Japan's communications ministry supported 13 Japanese startups at the media-focused pre-events Launch IT and CES Unveiled on 4 January 2026 (MIC). The pre-events are aimed at the media, so they are worth knowing about when you plan where to meet editors.
During CES: think in Japanese time
Las Vegas and Tokyo in January
Las Vegas (PST)
- Press event
- Tue 9:00
- Afternoon
- Tue 15:00
Tokyo (JST)
- Same moment
- Wed 2:00
- Same moment
- Wed 8:00
Las Vegas runs on Pacific Standard Time in January, and Japan Standard Time is 17 hours ahead: 9:00 on Tuesday in Las Vegas is 2:00 on Wednesday in Tokyo. Practical consequences:
- Send the Japanese release to Japanese editors in advance, under the same embargo, so they can publish the moment it lifts without waiting for a translation.
- Schedule wider Japanese distribution for a Japanese morning, for example 8:00 JST, which is 15:00 PST the day before.
- Have someone answer Japanese questions within Japanese working hours during the show week.
- Invite Japanese editors who are at CES to a booth slot. A hands-on demo gives them something to write.
After CES: turn the show into a Japanese launch
Many Japanese readers can't act on a CES announcement until the product is sold in Japan. The more valuable PR often comes after the show:
- Follow up with Japanese outlets with photos, specifications and, if possible, a review unit in Japan.
- Use CES as a news peg: "shown at CES 2027" can give editors a reason to cover the product when it arrives in Japan.
- Plan the Japanese launch itself, with a date, price and where to buy, as a separate PR moment. See the 90-day Japan launch timeline.
- Consider a Japanese trade show as the next step. CEATEC in October, for example, gives a second chance for hands-on coverage in Japan. See trade show PR in Japan.
What to avoid
- Assuming coverage in English reaches Japanese buyers. Japanese shoppers search in Japanese, and Japanese retailers look for Japanese sources.
- Announcing a Japanese launch you can't support. If certification, stock or pricing isn't ready, say "coming to Japan" without a date rather than promise one you might miss. See the compliance checklist.
- Mixing paid and earned results. If you pay for CES-related creator content or sponsored articles, label it as advertising in Japan and report it separately.
Where Gloture fits

Frequently asked questions
Do Japanese media cover CES?
Yes. Several major Japanese tech outlets run dedicated CES sections, and coverage continues for weeks after the show in analysis and recap pieces. With thousands of exhibitors, though, they choose carefully.
What time should a Japanese CES release go out?
Japan is 17 hours ahead of Las Vegas in January. Send the Japanese release to Japanese editors in advance under the same embargo as the English one, and schedule wider Japanese distribution for a Japanese morning, such as 8:00 JST (15:00 PST the day before).
Should we wait to do Japanese PR until the product is sold in Japan?
Do both. Brief Japanese outlets around CES for awareness, then run a separate Japanese launch with price and availability, which gives outlets a second, more practical reason to cover the product.
Is the JETRO Japan Pavilion only for Japanese companies?
JETRO organizes it to support Japanese companies; check JETRO's eligibility rules. For an overseas brand, the more useful step is to brief Japanese editors attending CES directly, before and during the show.
