Short answer: For a gadget in Japan, a dedicated review is the strongest format when buyers need to understand and compare the product before they buy. An integration (a sponsored segment inside a creator's regular video) costs less and reaches the channel's usual audience, but explains less. Shorts, now up to three minutes, are best for quick demonstrations and reach. A Japanese agency guide puts their fees at about 50–70% of a long-form video. Many campaigns pair one long review with Shorts cut for reach. Whatever the format, sponsored videos must be labeled as advertising.

Dedicated review (単独タイアップ). A whole video about your product: unboxing, setup, testing, strengths and weaknesses. It gives viewers enough to decide, and it can keep being found in search long after publication. It is also the most expensive and needs the most preparation: samples well in advance, a Japanese brief and time for the creator to test properly.
Integration (一部紹介). A sponsored segment inside a video on another topic. It reaches the channel's regular audience in a natural setting, at a lower cost than a dedicated video. It suits accessories and simple products, but not products that need explaining.
Shorts. Vertical or square videos of up to three minutes, for videos uploaded since 15 October 2024 (YouTube Help). Good for a single striking demonstration: how fast it charges, how small it folds, what it sounds like. They are easy to reshare and can reach viewers who don't subscribe. They rarely leave room for comparison or detail.
What each costs, relative to the others
Japanese agencies price sponsored videos per creator, and most don't publish rates. One Tokyo influencer agency's guide describes Shorts fees as about 50–70% of a long-form video. It reports that in its own data the median Short cost 63.6% of the median long-form video, and that a video built around the creator's own concept, with the product written in (企画コラボ), can cost 1.5–2 times a standard long-form video (mocha, updated September 2026, in Japanese). The same guide adds direction fees of 20–30% when booking through an agency.
We found no reliable public source comparing the price of a dedicated review with a short integration, so treat any ratio you see with caution. For typical fees by channel size, see what Japanese YouTubers charge for sponsored videos.
How to judge each format
Dedicated review
- Measure
- View duration, questions in comments, link clicks
- Don't compare with
- Shorts view counts
Integration
- Measure
- Clicks and codes, retention through the segment
- Don't compare with
- The whole video's views
Shorts
- Measure
- Non-subscriber reach, shares, visits to a long review
- Don't compare with
- Long-form views
How the formats are measured differently
Views aren't comparable across formats. Since 31 March 2025, YouTube counts a Shorts view as soon as playback starts, with no minimum watch time; the earlier measure is now reported as "engaged views" (YouTube Help). A Short can therefore show many more views than a long review with far more watching. Compare formats by what they are meant to do:
- Dedicated reviews: average view duration, comments asking about price or availability, and clicks on the description link.
- Integrations: clicks and codes from the segment, and retention through the sponsored part.
- Shorts: reach among non-subscribers, shares, and visits to a long review or product page.

Why creators may welcome sponsored Shorts
Shorts earn creators money from a shared pool of Shorts ad revenue: creators keep 45% of the revenue allocated to them (YouTube Help). YouTube has announced that from 1 February 2027, earning from that pool will require at least 10 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days. Our reading, not YouTube's: for many mid-sized creators, Shorts ad income is modest, so sponsorships are an important way to earn from the format.

Launch?
Review first, Shorts from the same shoot
- Choose a dedicated review for products people research before buying: audio, cameras, PC accessories, smart home devices, anything priced high enough that buyers compare.
- Choose an integration for low-friction products the audience already understands: cables, chargers, desk accessories, consumables.
- Choose Shorts for products with a visual "moment", or to extend a long review's reach.
- Combine them for launches: one or more dedicated reviews from category channels, then Shorts cut from the same session, if the agreement allows reuse.
Disclosure in every format
Every format needs the same disclosure in Japan, and the advertiser is responsible for it (see sponsored content, editorial coverage and seeding). Creators should tick YouTube's paid-promotion box, which shows a disclosure at the start of the video (YouTube Help). For video, the Consumer Affairs Agency suggests keeping a clear label such as 「広告」 visible throughout, because viewers may join part-way. That matters for integrations in particular, where the sponsored segment can start mid-video.
Where Gloture fits
For gadget campaigns we usually start from one long review on a category channel and add Shorts only where the product has a clear visual moment. We choose channels by recent views and fit, and check disclosure before publication. Creator campaigns are quoted on request, and Product PR in Japan starts from US$2,500. We don't guarantee views or sales. For typical market costs by creator tier, use the Japan PR Cost Estimator; to plan a campaign, start a Japan PR Review.

Frequently asked questions
Are YouTube Shorts cheaper than long reviews in Japan?
Usually, though not always. One Japanese agency guide puts Shorts at about 50–70% of a long-form video's fee. Price depends on the creator, the work involved and whether you want to reuse the video.
Is an integration enough for a new gadget?
For a simple accessory, often yes. For a product that needs explaining or comparing, a dedicated review usually does more, because viewers get enough information to decide.
Can we turn a dedicated review into Shorts?
Often, if the agreement allows it. Agree in advance who edits the Shorts, where they are posted and whether you can reuse the footage in your own ads, which usually costs extra.
Do Shorts views mean the same as long-form views?
No. YouTube counts a Shorts view as soon as playback starts, so the numbers aren't comparable. Judge each format by its own goal.
