Short answer: Floor space at a major international show typically costs a few thousand US dollars for the smallest booth: CES published US$45–50 per square foot for its 2025 edition, COMPUTEX 2027 charges international exhibitors US$3,340–4,540 for a 9 m² booth, and HKTDC's autumn 2026 Electronics Fair charged HK$44,130 for a 9 m² standard booth. Space is only part of the bill. A German industry study put stand rent and basic costs at about 21% of the total, with stand construction, staff and travel making up most of the rest. Many large shows, including IFA, MWC and gamescom, publish no stand price at all.
What "cost to exhibit" includes
An exhibitor's budget has two layers. The first is what the organizer charges: floor space, sometimes a mandatory media or online package, and fees such as power or badges. The second is everything you buy from others: the stand itself, freight and on-site handling, labor, travel, hotels and the people who staff the booth.
Organizers publish only the first layer, and not all of them do that. This guide collects the prices that are officially public, notes where they aren't, and shows how industry studies split the rest. Every price carries its edition and tax status, because a 2025 rate card is not a 2027 quote. For the dates of each show, see the 2027 consumer electronics trade show calendar. Gloture has no affiliation with any of these organizers.

A few details change the real number:
- CES: the 2025 rate card is the latest public one. CES 2027 rates sit in exhibitor materials and come through a sales representative, so don't assume the 2025 figure still applies. In 2025, booths of 399 sq ft and under included an 8 ft back wall, side drape and a sign, and CTA membership was not included.
- COMPUTEX: a non-refundable deposit per booth, mandatory insurance and strict refund rules apply; the COMPUTEX 2027 guide covers the rates and terms in full.
- HKTDC: the Hall of Fame is reserved for original brands and licensees with trademark proof, and the standard booth isn't available there, so a brand that wants that hall starts at the Deluxe booth. No refund is made after the confirmation letter.
- Tokyo Game Show and CEATEC: both are space-only, so the base booth and electrical work are extra. CEATEC charges ¥13,200 per kW of power, including tax.
- Tokyo Gift Show: add an option deposit of ¥80,000 for one booth, settled after the show.
Shows that publish no stand price
Several major shows quote privately:
- IFA Berlin: no public list price, only booking discounts; see the IFA 2027 exhibitor guide.
- MWC Barcelona: an inquiry form for exhibition, sponsorship and meeting rooms; no rate card (MWC).
- gamescom: no public per-m² rate. Trade press reported early-bird discounts for 2026 and packages for the Home of Indies area from €1,999 to €11,499, VAT status not stated (GamesMarket, March 2026).
- Global Sources Hong Kong Shows: booths are quoted by the sales team.
- Maison&Objet: no public rate from the organizer. One national pavilion shows the order of magnitude: Italy's trade agency ICE offered a collective stand for January 2026 at €300 per m² plus VAT, fit-out and services included, for Italian companies (ICE, in Italian).
For these shows, the honest budget line is "organizer quotes on request". Ask for a written quote that names the edition, the stand type and the tax treatment.

Stand build and furniture
Space-only stands need a stand. Ambiente's own packages show the gap: its 2026 all-inclusive package cost €6,400 for 12 m², with walls, carpet, lighting, furniture, power and daily cleaning, plus VAT (Messe Frankfurt). The same 12 m² as space only at the 2027 standard rate comes to €4,777 before VAT, including fees and the media package (12 × €316 + €985). The years differ, so treat the roughly €1,600 difference as indicative.
Utilities, handling and labor
At US shows, on-site services are a large line. CES publishes Freeman rates for material handling, labor and electrical work, and a late electrical order costs about 50% more than an advance one; the CES 2027 exhibitor guide lists them. The worked example below uses two of those rates.
Other shows list smaller extras. CEATEC 2026 listed a visitor-data scanning system from ¥30,800 and extra badges at ¥1,650, both including tax.
Freight and temporary import
Demo units and booth materials have to cross borders and come back. An ATA Carnet lets goods enter temporarily duty-free for exhibitions. Under the US issuer's 2022 fee schedule, the basic fee ran from US$255 for goods under US$9,999 to US$545 above US$1 million, plus a security of about 40% of the goods' value (Roanoke Trade). Fees differ by issuing country; check the current schedule.
Travel and hotels
Hotels during show week are often the surprise, and late bookings cost the most. One travel platform's CES 2026 data, summarized in the CES guide, put the median near the LVCC above US$400 a night. Book early and budget from a quote, not an average.
Staff
We found no reliable public day-rate source for booth staff or interpreters. Budget them from quotes, and remember your own team's time. In the German study below, personnel made up 16% of total trade fair costs.
How much of the budget is floor space?
Share of total trade fair costs (Germany, 2018)
- Stand construction, equipment, design30%
- Travel and accommodation23%About
- Stand rent and basic costs21%
- Personnel16%
- Other10%About
Two respected studies answer differently, because they measure different things.
AUMA / ifo (Germany, 2018). For the German trade fair association AUMA, the ifo Institute found that, on average across event types, stand rent plus basic costs such as energy made up 21% of the total; stand construction, equipment and design 30%; personnel 16%; travel and accommodation about 23%; and other costs about 10% (AUMA Messelexikon, in German). AUMA adds that international fairs usually cost more than regional ones for the same stand size. On this basis, the total is roughly four to five times the space rent.
CEIR (United States, late-2025 survey). The Center for Exhibition Industry Research's "How the Exhibit Dollar Is Spent" found exhibit space at 40.5% of total direct spend, up from 37.9% in 2017 (TSNN, April 2026). Direct spend appears to exclude staff salaries, which is one reason space looks larger here than in AUMA's split.
Two ways to measure the space share
AUMA / ifo
- Space share
- 21% (rent plus basic costs)
- Counts
- Staff and travel included
- Use when
- You budget the whole effort
CEIR
- Space share
- 40.5% of direct spend
- Counts
- Direct spend; appears to exclude salaries
- Use when
- You budget cash paid out
Use the method that matches your budget. If you count your own staff's time and travel, the AUMA split is closer. If you only count cash paid to the organizer and contractors, CEIR's is. You may also see a "multiply space by three" rule of thumb; it is attributed to Exhibitor Magazine, not to CEIR, and we couldn't verify its year.
Costs are rising. In AUMA's 2026/2027 exhibitor outlook, 64.1% of German exhibitors named rising costs as their top challenge (AUMA, March 2026, in German).
A worked example: building your own estimate
Here is the structure, using only published figures. Everything marked "quote" depends on your choices.
| Line | CES (one 10×10 ft booth) | COMPUTEX 2027 (one shell booth, Nangang) |
|---|---|---|
| Floor space | US$5,000 (non-member, 2025 rate; 2027 rate on request) | US$4,540, VAT included; US$1,000 non-refundable deposit due on confirmation |
| Stand | Basic back wall and drape included at this size (2025); graphics: quote | Basic shell included; graphics: quote |
| Power | US$115.35 per 500W outlet, ordered in advance | 110V/500W included |
| Handling | US$0.71 per lb (e.g., 500 lb = US$355) | Quote |
| Insurance | Quote | Mandatory; quote |
| Freight and carnet | Quote | Quote |
| Hotels | Median US$439 a night near the LVCC (CES 2026, Navan) | Quote |
| Staff and travel | Quote | Quote |
| Published items only | Not totaled: the space rate is from 2025 and the service rates' year is unlabeled | US$4,540 (2027 kit, VAT included) |
The bottom line is not your budget. If the AUMA split holds, space is about a fifth of the final figure.
Ways to lower the cost
- Book early. Ambiente's early rate was €28–37 per m² lower; IFA offers prebook discounts; CES electricity costs a third less if ordered in advance.
- Use startup areas. InnoVEX at COMPUTEX (startups founded after 2019), CEATEC's Next Generation Park and CES Eureka Park are designed for smaller companies, with their own eligibility rules.
- Check your own country's pavilion. Many governments subsidize national pavilions for their own companies; Japan's, such as JETRO's at CES, are open only to Japanese companies.
- Choose a turnkey or shell stand for a first show, rather than a custom build.
How to Reach Japanese Media Around These Shows
If Japan is one of your target markets, budget a small line for Japanese communications, because a booth abroad doesn't reach Japanese editors by itself. The core items are a Japanese release written for Japanese readers, Japanese captions on images, a Japanese price and availability statement, and someone who can answer Japanese questions during Japanese working hours. Time zones matter too; the launch guide linked below maps them show by show.
After the show, review units need to be in Japan, not in your booth crates. For show-by-show timing and outlets, see how to turn a trade show launch into Japanese media coverage, CES to Japan and, for Japanese shows, trade show PR in Japan. To pick the right outlets, start with the guide to Japanese tech media publishers.
Where Gloture fits
We don't sell booths, build stands or book space; the costs above are paid to organizers and contractors. Our part is turning the show into Japanese coverage: Japanese materials prepared before the show, outreach timed for Japan, and follow-up once review units are in Japan. Product PR in Japan starts from US$2,500. We don't guarantee coverage. For typical Japanese market costs around a launch, try the Japan PR Cost Estimator, or start a Japan PR Review.

Frequently asked questions
How much does the smallest booth at CES cost?
CTA's last public rate card, for CES 2025, listed open space at US$45 per square foot for members and US$50 for non-members, so a 10×10 ft booth was US$4,500–5,000 for space alone. CES 2027 rates come through a sales representative. Startups often join Eureka Park through national pavilions, whose prices vary by country program.
Why don't IFA and MWC publish booth prices?
Both quote individually. IFA says 2027 rates are calculated from each exhibitor's 2026 conditions and only publishes prebook and rebook discounts; MWC uses an inquiry form. Ask for a written quote with the stand type, edition and VAT treatment.
Is floor space a third of the total budget?
It depends on what you count. A German study (AUMA/ifo, 2018) put stand rent and basics at about 21% of total costs including staff and travel, while CEIR's late-2025 US survey put space at 40.5% of direct spend. The "one third" rule of thumb is commonly attributed to Exhibitor Magazine.
