Short answer: IFA Berlin 2027 runs from September 3 to 7, 2027 at Messe Berlin, with Media Days on September 1 and 2. Unlike CES, IFA is open to trade visitors and the public on every show day, and IFA 2026 reported 240,000 visitors from 155 countries and more than 2,000 exhibitors (organizer figures, not audited). IFA doesn't publish stand prices; the organizer quotes on request, and rebooking exhibitors' 2027 rates are based on their 2026 terms. It suits appliance, smart home, audio and lifestyle tech brands looking for European retail and distribution, and press attention ahead of the autumn and holiday season.

Trade and public on the same days

IFA has no trade-only days in the 2027 schedule. Trade visitors get in from 9:30 every day, and the public from noon on the first day and from 10:00 after that. In practice, the first morning and each morning before 10:00 are the calmest time for buyer meetings, while weekends bring the biggest consumer crowds.

This mix is IFA's main difference from CES. You can show a product to retailers and distributors and watch how consumers react at the same booth. The downside is that staff have to switch between a buyer conversation and a queue of curious visitors, and demo units take more wear.

The Media Days on September 1 and 2 come before the doors open. That is when many large brands hold press conferences, so it is the most crowded time for media attention and also the time editors are actively looking for news.

Audience and figures

The organizer's closing release for IFA 2026 reported 240,000 visitors from 155 countries, over 2,000 exhibitors, and more than 5,200 members of the press, bloggers and content creators, plus more than 1,500 influencers, creators and streamers. IFA Next had around 300 exhibitors from 24 countries, and the IFA Innovation Awards received more than 530 submissions (IFA, September 2026). The IFA homepage adds that the 2,000+ exhibitors came from 51 countries (IFA).

These are organizer-reported figures. The release doesn't say they were independently audited, and the visitor total combines trade and public attendance, so it isn't comparable with CES's audited, trade-only count.

Areas named in the 2026 release include Home Appliances, Beauty Tech & Wellbeing, Audio, Computing & Gaming, AI, mobility, robotics, Outdoor & Gardening, IFA Global Markets (a sourcing area for suppliers) and IFA Next.

What IFA is good for

Home appliances and smart home. Home Appliances is one of IFA's named show areas, alongside AI, robotics and Outdoor & Gardening. For a connected kitchen product, a robot vacuum or a smart home device, that puts you in halls that buyers and editors visit for exactly that category.

European retail and distribution. IFA's early-September date falls ahead of the autumn and holiday selling season. If your goal is a European distributor or a retail listing in Germany and neighboring markets, meeting them in Berlin at that point in the year is useful.

Consumer reaction. With the public in the halls every day, you get real feedback on design, price and messaging.

Sourcing. IFA Global Markets is a separate area for suppliers and manufacturers. It is aimed at sourcing, not at consumer brands selling finished products.

What IFA is not good for

  • US retail as the main goal. CES and US category shows are held where US buyers already are, and are more direct.
  • Quiet meetings. Public days are loud and crowded. Book a meeting room or plan buyer meetings for the mornings.
  • Products not available in Europe. Retailers and editors at IFA want to know about European availability, price and certification. A product without a European plan gets polite interest and little more.
  • Very early prototypes. Consumer visitors expect to touch a finished product.

How to apply and what it costs

IFA doesn't publish a stand price list. The exhibit pages only have a form to register interest for IFA 2027 (IFA exhibit). For returning exhibitors, the rebook page says "Your 2027 rate is calculated from your individual IFA 2026 conditions" and that "prices move up in fixed stages and keep rising through to mid 2027." The only public figures are discounts: €15 per m² off the regular list price for prebooking and €10 per m² for rebooking (IFA prebook; IFA rebook). Submitting the form doesn't guarantee a stand; all applications are reviewed and space is allocated by the organizer.

In short: no public stand price; the organizer quotes on request, and booking earlier costs less.

IFA Next, the startup and innovation area (Hall 25 and part of Hall 5.2 in 2026), has no published eligibility rules or prices either; applications go through an IFA Next inquiry form. Ask the organizer directly about package sizes and costs.

National pavilions. Some countries run shared stands at IFA. Japan's last confirmed pavilion was at IFA Next 2019, when Japan was the first partner country and 20 startups exhibited with JETRO and METI (JETRO Germany, in Japanese). We found no JETRO pavilion for 2026 or 2027. Check with your own country's trade agency.

Other costs

The stand fee is only part of the budget. Floor space is typically only a fifth to a third of the total cost; see what it costs to exhibit for the full budget model.

There is no published IFA shell-scheme package either. For a sense of German all-inclusive pricing at a different show, Messe Frankfurt's Ambiente 2026 package was €6,400 plus VAT for 12 m², including walls, carpet, lighting, furniture, power and daily cleaning (Ambiente 2026). That is not an IFA price, but it shows the kind of package to ask IFA about. Prices in Germany are usually quoted before VAT.

Visitor tickets

Tickets are separate from exhibitor costs. For IFA 2026, a one-day trade ticket was €65, a two-day ticket €99.99 and a five-day ticket €138, with early-bird prices until May 7, 2026 and a €78 day ticket on site (IFA trade tickets). Public tickets were €21.50 for adults in advance and €28 on site, and children up to 15 entered free (IFA, May 2026). 2027 ticket prices are not yet published.

Media and press at IFA

Journalists and bloggers apply for accreditation through IFA's press form, and applications are reviewed case by case. Content creators use a separate form, and IFA's Creator Hub offers a creator ticket and an ambassador program for creators who apply with examples of their work (IFA press; IFA Creator Hub). The 2027 press terms are not yet published.

With more than 5,200 press, bloggers and creators reported for 2026, IFA brings a large media presence to Berlin in early September. Large brands' Media Day press conferences dominate the first headlines, so a smaller brand needs pre-booked appointments and a specific angle rather than hoping for walk-ups.

Preparation timeline

  • Now to early 2027: register interest or rebook. Prices rise in stages through mid-2027, so the decision date affects the price.
  • Six to nine months out: confirm the stand, choose a stand builder, decide on IFA Next or the main halls, and book hotels in Berlin.
  • Three months out: plan European pricing, certification and availability so you can answer retailers and editors. Arrange shipping for demo units.
  • Six to eight weeks out: prepare press materials in English, German and any other target languages, apply for the Innovation Awards if relevant, and book Media Day and booth appointments.
  • September 1–2: Media Days, press appointments.
  • September 3–7: buyer meetings in the mornings, public demos, a contact log.
  • After the show: follow up with buyers and editors within days, and plan the next market step.

Who should exhibit

IFA fits brands with a finished product, a European sales plan and a category that IFA is known for: home appliances, smart home, audio, beauty tech, outdoor and garden tech, and connected lifestyle products. It also fits brands that want consumer feedback alongside trade meetings.

Startups should look at IFA Next first, and ask early, because it has no published terms. Brands focused on US retail, or on computing components and AI hardware, should compare CES and COMPUTEX. How to Reach Japanese Media Around IFA

IFA is a European show, but it lands at a useful moment for Japan. Early September is ahead of the Japanese autumn and year-end shopping season, and CEATEC follows in Japan on October 19–22, 2027 (CEATEC), giving a second chance for hands-on coverage in Japan.

Time zone. Berlin is on Central European Summer Time in September, which is seven hours behind Japan (JST). A 10:00 Media Day press conference in Berlin is 17:00 in Tokyo the same day. That is late afternoon for Japanese editors, so a release under embargo until the press conference can be published in the Japanese evening. Send the Japanese release to Japanese editors in advance under the same embargo; don't wait to translate after the announcement.

What Japanese editors will ask. A European launch doesn't answer the Japanese questions: Is there a Japanese model? When will it be sold in Japan, at what price, and where? Has it passed Japanese certification? Japanese mains power is 100V, so a European model is often not the product Japanese readers can buy. If the answer is "not yet", say so plainly. See the Japan product compliance checklist.

Who to approach. For appliances and smart home products, start with the outlets that cover home appliances and connected homes in Japanese (Japanese media for smart home and appliances). For audio, computing and gadgets, see the guide to Japanese tech media publishers. Check which outlets ran IFA coverage in 2026 before you pitch, and expect many to wait for the Japanese launch rather than write about a European one.

Review units in Japan. Japanese editors want to test the Japanese model in Japan. Plan units with Japanese plugs and Japanese documentation for the weeks after IFA.

After the show. Use IFA as a news peg: "shown at IFA 2027" gives a Japanese editor a reason to cover the product when it arrives in Japan. For the full sequence, see trade show PR in Japan: before, during and after and how to turn a trade show launch into Japanese media coverage.

Where Gloture fits

Gloture has no affiliation with IFA or its organizer, and we don't sell stands or build booths. For overseas brands launching at IFA, we prepare the Japanese release and timing for Japanese editors, pitch the appliance, smart home and tech outlets that fit the product, and arrange review units and follow-up when the product comes to Japan. Product PR in Japan starts from US$2,500. We don't guarantee coverage. To plan the Japanese side of an IFA launch, start a Japan PR Review.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a stand at IFA 2027 cost?

IFA doesn't publish a stand price list. The organizer quotes on request, rebooking exhibitors' rates are based on their 2026 terms, and prices rise in stages through mid-2027. The only public figures are booking discounts of €15 per m² for prebooking and €10 per m² for rebooking.

Is IFA a trade show or a consumer show?

Both. In 2027, trade visitors enter from 9:30 and the public from noon on the first day and from 10:00 on the other four days, so there are no trade-only show days. The Media Days on September 1 and 2 come before the show opens.

What is the time difference between IFA Berlin and Japan?

In September, Berlin is on Central European Summer Time, seven hours behind Japan. A 10:00 press conference in Berlin is 17:00 in Tokyo, so send Japanese materials to editors in advance under the same embargo.
